The key to enhancing your understanding and enjoyment of Brazilian culture is, of course, learning the language! Not only will it help you in the boardroom if you use it for business, but it will help you understand the lovely lyrics in your favorite bossa nova song, the names of movements in a capoeira class, or the high energy exaltations in the samba enredos of Rio’s carnaval.

Instructor DIONE DOS SANTOS PEREIRA, M.A., has twenty years of university teaching experience in both the United States and Brazil and ten years of experience in developing language curriculum and teaching Portuguese in the United States (for Foreign Service Institute, Georgetown University, US Marine Corps, World Bank, The International Monetary Fund (IMF) and The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) officials). She also has two years of experience administering proficiency-based assessments (FSI certified Tester) experience with Federal Interagency Language Roundtable (IRL) and four years of CELPE-Bras certified Examiner (Brazilian certificate of proficiency in Portuguese as a foreign language granted by Brazil's Ministry of Education).

Meet new people and bond over a new dish? Join this one-night class online and learn how to make the traditional Bahian dish, Bobó de Camarão, a blend of coconut milk, shrimp, and cassava. The dish is traditionally served in a pumpkin or gourd, perfect for the fall season! 

P.S. There will be a caipirinha making class at the end with the famous bartender from Bahia known as the Brazilian Alchemist!
